Leonard Viera, 78, of Somers, went to be reunited with his beloved wife Elaine for to New Year on Monday (Dec. 31, 2012). Leonard was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 56 years W. Elaine (Carpenter) Viera (8/19/11) and parents John and Mary (Souza) Viera.
He was born on Feb. 2, 1934 in New Bedford, MA and had resided in Somers for 35 years.
Leonard received his Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering from Western New England College.
Prior to retiring Leonard was employed with Pratt & Whitney Division of UTC in the Research Center for over 30 years. He loved spending time with his family especially his beautiful wife.
He is survived by his children; Michael Viera of South Carolina, Steven Viera and his wife Julie of Tolland and Kelly Yiznitsky of Enfield, his six grandchildren; Christopher Viera, Melissa Viera, Steven Viera, Mary Viera, Sarah Yiznitsky and Jake Yiznitsky.
He is also survived by a brother John Viera & wife, Rita, two sisters Dorothy DeMello & husband Bill and Pat Overton & husband John, along with many nieces and nephews.
Leonard was also predeceased by a son-in-law Michael Yiznitsky.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Leonard will take place on Saturday (January 26, 2013) at 10:00 a.m. in St. Bernard’s Church, Enfield. Interment will follow in St. Bernard’s Cemetery, Enfield. In lieu of flowers memorial donations in his memory may be made to St. Bernard’s Church, 426 Hazard Ave. Enfield 06082.
