Obituary for Raymond "Ray" J. Vane

Raymond “Ray” J. Vane, 74, of Enfield, died peacefully in the comfort of his home on Sunday (February 10, 2013) after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Raymond was born on May 2, 1938 in the Thompsonville section of Enfield, son of the late Wilfred and Florence (Curry) Vane. He graduated from Enfield High School in 1957. Ray served with the U.S. Army and Army National Guard. Prior to retiring in 1995 he was employed for many years with the C.H. Dexter Corp. Ray married his high school sweetheart Barbara Spanswick on Oct. 5, 1963.
Together they loved to travel and spent many memorable years at their home in Fort Pierce, FL.
His favorite trips were to Las Vegas and driving cross country with Barbara.
Besides his wife Barbara, he leaves behind his children; Darci Vane, David Vane and Heidi Vane all of Enfield, his cherished grandchildren; Mak & Emma Vane whom were his pride and joy. Ray is also survived by a sister; Honey Barnard of St. Petersburg, FL, his mother-in-law; Isabelle Spanswick, special-in-laws, many nieces, nephews, cousins and special friends. Ray’s family would especially like to thank the 8-1 Staff at St. Francis Hospital, Dr. Donadio and his favorite nurse, Joy for the exceptional and compassionate care and support given to Ray. Also a special thanks to Nancy Spanswick & Mike Sirois for their help and support.
Relatives and friends may gather with his family during calling hours on Tuesday (February 12, 2013) from 4:00 to 8:00 pm at Browne Memorial Funeral Chapels 43 Shaker Rd. Enfield. Funeral services will be on Wednesday (February 13,) with the procession forming at 9:00 a.m. at the funeral home to Holy Family Church 23 Simon Rd. Enfield for a 10:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will follow in the Hazardville Cemetery. In lieu of flowers Memorial donations in his memory may be made to the Mak and Emma Vane Educational Fund C/O Windsor Locks Federal Credit Union, 516 Spring St., Windsor Locks, CT 06096.
