Beatrice  V.  Atkins (Emmett)
Beatrice V. (Emmett) Atkins, of Enfield, entered into eternal rest at the age of 88 with loved ones at her side on Saturday (April 20, 2013) at Parkway Pavilion Healthcare in Enfield. She was the beloved wife of 26 years to the late Chester Atkins (1977). Beatrice was born on May 1, 1924 in Poughkeepsie, NY, a daughter of the late Joseph & Roannie (Ostrom) Emmett.
She had resided in Enfield for the past 3 years and in Houston, TX and Hermitage, TN prior to that. Beatrice was an avid reader and great cook, she also enjoyed sewing but her greatest joy was spending time with her family. A dedicated and loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great grandmother she devoted her life to caring for her family and home. She is survived by her loving children; Deborah Leu of Enfield, Donald Atkins & wife Earlene of Enfield, Sussanne LaCafta & husband William of TX, Jennipher Atkins of Agawam, MA, Peter Atkins & wife Sue of FL, Renee Foley &husband Gary of Windsor Locks, Chester “Link” Atkins & wife Karen of FL and Kathy Barnett & husband Bud of TN, 22 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren and 7 great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by her siblings: Bob Lowe of FL, Floyd Lowe, Jr. of FL, Michael Emmett of NY and Katherine Drapeau of FL along with many nieces and nephews. Besides her husband she was also predeceased by a daughter Amber Ritchie (2013), a son Richard Atkins (1963), siblings: Paul Emmett, Sr., Walter Lowe and Donald Emmett.
Relatives and friends may gather with her family during calling hours on Thursday (April 25, 2013) from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. followed by a Memorial and Remembrance Service at Browne Memorial Funeral Chapels 43 Shaker Rd. Enfield. Interment will be at the convenience of her family in the Springdale Cemetery East Windsor, CT. In lieu of flowers memorial donations in her memory may be made to the American Diabetes Association 2080 Silas Deane Highway 2nd floor Rocky Hill, CT 06067.
