Obituary for George A. Newman, Sr.

George A.  Newman, Sr.
George A. Newman, Sr., of Enfield, entered into eternal life at the age of 87 on Tuesday June 11, 2013, in Enfield. He was the beloved husband of Frances R. (Coleman) Newman. George was born on November 26, 1925 in Conimicut, Rhode Island. He had resided in Enfield for 56 years and in Providence, RI prior to that.
George was a graduate of Classical High School and then went on to further his education at Allen School of Aeronautics both in Providence, RI.
George served his country honorably with the U.S. Marine Corps during WW II.
He was employed with Pratt & Whitney Aircraft Inc. for 28 years and retired from AVCO-Lycoming Inc. as an instructor.
George was a CCD teacher and member of St. Bernard Church in Enfield. He enjoyed doing genealogy research, but most of all spending time with his family.
Besides his loving wife of 64 years, Frances he is survived by his four children; George A. Newman, Jr. & wife Jeannie of Enfield, Mary Beth Lamagna & husband Rob of Enfield, Donald Newman of Enfield and Gary Newman & wife Sarah of Cranford, NJ, his five beloved grandchildren; Rob Lamagna, Jr., Michael Lamagna, Justin Newman, Rachel Newman and Rebecca Newman, along with many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother; Edward Newman.
Relatives and friends may gather with his family during calling hours on Friday June 14, 2013 from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Browne Memorial Funeral Chapels 43 Shaker Rd. Enfield. The funeral procession will form at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday June 15, 2013 to St. Bernard Church 426 Hazard Ave. Enfield for a 10:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial. The committal service will follow with military honors in St. Bernard Cemetery, Enfield. Memorial donations in his memory may be made to Parkway Pavilion Recreational Program 1157 Enfield Street Enfield, CT 06082.
