Obituary for Paul J. Vacon

Paul J. Vacon, 95, of Enfield, CT, passed away peacefully on Good Friday, April 18, 2014 with his family by his side. Paul was the beloved husband of 57 years to the late Evelyn J. (Gurdak) Vacon. He was born Aug. 15, 1918 in Wakefield, MA the son of the late Alec and Rose (Babin) Vacon and had resided in Enfield since 1955. Paul was a U.S. Army Veteran having served bravely overseas during WW II and was the recipient of the Bronze and Silver Stars. He went on to further his education and received his MBA from Northeastern University. Prior to his retirement, Paul was an auditor with the U.S. Government Department of Defense for many years.
He was a member of the AARP Chapter 3062, active member of the Enfield Senior Center and the UTA (University of the Third Age) at Asnuntuck Community College. Paul enjoyed gardening, traveling with Evelyn and spending time with his loving family. He also liked taking trips to the Casino.
Paul is survived by his son John P. Vacon & his wife Linda of Holyoke, MA, his two beloved grandsons Matthew Vacon & his fiancée Hillary Stevens of Windsor and Kevin Vacon of Enfield, a sister-in-law Helen Gurdak of Taunton, MA, along with several nieces and a nephew.
Besides his wife and parents he was predeceased by a son Robert A. Vacon, two dear brothers, Victor and Bernard Vacon and a brother-in-law Edmund Gurdak.
Paul was a loving husband, great Dad, Grandpa and Father- in-Law who was a very generous and kind gentleman who will be sadly missed by all who knew him.
Funeral services at Paul’s request will be private. There will be no calling hours. Browne Memorial Funeral Chapels Enfield, CT is assisting the family with arrangements.
