Obituary for Josephine L. Vella (Fiore)

Josephine “Josie” (Fiore) Vella, 92, of Enfield passed away October 1, 2015 at The Suffield House. A lifelong resident, Josie was born in the Thompsonville section of Enfield to the late Ralph and Maria (Ruggiana) Fiore. In 1949 she married Charles S. Vella who predeceased her in 1991. Josie left school at the age of 13 to go to work in the Bigelow Sanford Carpet Mill, a job she loved and stayed with until Bigelow closed the Enfield Mill. After a short career at the Enfield High School Cafeteria, she went to work at the Albert Steiger’s Enfield store. Josie loved working at Steigers and soon became the manager of the domestics department, a position she held until her retirement at the age of 67. She was a member of the Rinaldi-Fede Post, ladies auxiliary. Josie enjoyed cooking, playing Bingo the daily numbers and going to the casino. She was a generous and kind woman leaving behind a family filled with love and wonderful memories. Left to mourn her passings are her two daughters: Teresa Paul and her partner Wyatt Cheney, Charlene Luzey and her partner Dan Kilty; grandchildren, Stephen Paul and his wife Loray, Lance Luzey and his partner Liz Mullin and her great grandchild, Colin Paul. Josie was predeceased by her brothers and sisters; Charles, John, Louis, Joseph and Sam Fiore, Frances and Anna Rinaldi. She also leaves behind many beloved nieces and nephews and their families. Family and friends will gather on Tuesday, October 6, 2015 by 9:00 a.m. at Browne Memorial Funeral Chapels for a procession to St. Patrick Church where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Burial will be held at St. Patrick King Street Cemetery. Josie’s family will receive relatives and friends on Monday, October 5, 2015 from 3:00 to 7 p.m. at Browne Memorial Funeral Chapels, 43 Shaker Road, Enfield, CT 06082.
