Obituary for Katherine "Katie" Lynn Joyal (Werner)

Katherine "Katie" Lynn Joyal (Werner)
Katherine “Katie” Lynn (Werner) Joyal, or affectionately known to family as “Kate”, passed away from Colon Cancer at the age of 40 on Friday March 11, 2016 in the comfort of her home with her husband by her side. She was the beloved wife of 14 1/2 years to Gerard Joyal and the loving mother of her four beautiful children Keeley, Braden, Cowen and Lainey. Katherine was born on October 10, 1975 in West Islip, NY to Wally and Dorothy (Kuzmich) Werner of Brightwaters, NY. Prior to moving to Connecticut Katie resided in Brightwaters, NY for 23 years, and graduated from Bay Shore H.S. (Class of 1993). She received her Master’s Degree in Physical Therapy from Springfield College, Springfield, MA in 1998. Katie enjoyed playing volleyball in HS and college. She was a Physical Therapist at the Chapin Center in Springfield, MA, Redstone Rehab & Nursing Ctr. in East Longmeadow, MA, Evergreen Healthcare Center and Johnson Memorial Hospital, Stafford Springs, CT, as well as a Rehabilitation Manager at Wingate, Wilbraham, MA. In her leisure time she enjoyed baking, especially “Katie Cakes”, cooking, time at the beach, but her greatest joy in life was spending time with her loving family and friends.
Katie is also survived by her two brothers Alex Werner & wife Jamie of Oakdale, NY and Bill Werner & wife Jill of Pompton Plains, NJ, her father-in-law & mother-in-law; Roland and Kathleen Joyal of Springfield, MA, and Gerard’s siblings; RJ & wife Kris, Claire & husband Scott, Chad & wife Kristin, Helene & husband Shawn, Emily, Caitlin & husband Kevin, and Deirdre & husband Eric, along with many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, dear friends and a wonderful community.
Katie was loved by everybody she met and was truly as beautiful on the inside as she was on the outside. She could be counted on for sharing witty stories, hosting a wonderful gathering of family and friends, always making time for a heartfelt conversation and snuggling any baby she could get her hands on. She lived life with an optimistic attitude. Her loving and confident nature is instilled in her four wonderful children. Katie’s creative and kindhearted qualities are currently seen in Keeley’s ability to skillfully make bracelets, hats or mittens for visitors, in Braden’s wonderful artwork, in Cowen’s cooking interest and in Lainey’s love of babies.
She managed to be easygoing, yet strong and completely genuine. She carried herself graciously and proved to be unselfish to so many. Her wonderful qualities came across daily and will truly be missed.
Katie’s family will receive relatives and friends on Tuesday March 15, 2016 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Lindenhurst Funeral Home 424 S. Wellwood Ave. Lindenhurst, NY and on Thursday March 17, 2016 from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Browne Memorial Funeral Chapels 43 Shaker Rd. Enfield, CT. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday March 18, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. in All Saints Church, 25 School St. Somersville, CT. (Please meet at church). Burial will be private.
