Obituary for Ret. Chief Petty Officer Roger T. Fournier

Roger T, Fournier, 78, passed away March 27, 2016 at the Soldiers’ Home in Holyoke. Born in Springfield and raised in (Thompsonville) Enfield, CT where he lived for many years after his retirement from the US Navy. He was the son of the late Anthony and Amelia (Thibodeau) Fournier and a graduate of Cathedral High School and Central Connecticut State University. Roger was a retired US Naval Chief Petty Officer who started his career aboard the USS Newport News and was later stationed at the Pentagon and served 2 tours in Vietnam. During his 20 year naval career Roger served in many different countries around the world including Italy, Okinawa, Taiwan and even Antarctica. Roger worked for a number of companies including MassMutual as an accountant and later worked as the manager of Sofia’s Package Store in East Windsor, CT. He was a long time member of the Enfield, CT Elks Lodge and the VFW. Roger was predeceased by his parents, Anthony and Amelia Fournier, his brothers William and Frank and his sister Claire Coughlin. He is survived by his brother Robert Fournier and his wife Dorothy of Bloomfield, CT and his sister-in-law Jackie Fournier of Hampden, MA. Roger also leaves many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. The family would like to thank the staff and volunteers at the Soldier’s Home for the exceptional care they provided Roger with a special thank you to Shannon.
Calling hours will be held on Mon., April 4, 2016 from 10:30-12:00 at the Browne Memorial Funeral Chapels, 43 Shaker Rd., Enfield, CT. A prayer service will start at 12 noon at the funeral home followed by a burial service in the MA Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery in Agawam, MA. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Soldiers’ Home of Holyoke, 110 Cherry St., Holyoke, MA 01040.
