Obituary for Beatrice R. Doherty (Gagne)

Beatrice R. Doherty (Gagne)
Beatrice Rita (Gagne) Doherty, passed from her earthly journey on Thursday, December. 8, 2016, to return unto the Lord & her beloved husband, Eddie.
Born to Henry & Rose (Godin) Gagne, on July 27, 1925 she was raised and spent most of her life in Enfield and was a longtime communicant of Saint Martha’s and Saint Bernard’s Parishes.
While working with her sisters in the late 1940’s, she met Eddie at the Sagamore Hotel at Lake George, NY, always (falsely) insisting that her sisters pressured her to date him because he had a car and could drive them all into town on their nights off. Through the following seasons of resort work at the Sagamore in the summer and the Ponce de Leon in St. Petersburg, FL in the winter, they fell in love and were married November 4, 1950 at Saint Bernard’s Parish in Enfield, where they settled and raised their family.
Beatrice was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother, raising four children and doting on her four grandchildren. She considered herself blessed to have had two grandchildren when she was relatively young and active, and doubly so when she got two more much later in life.
She worked at Milton Bradley for 10 years and made many friends there that she would stay in touch with for many years thereafter. She & Eddie helped her beloved sister, Julie, care for their mother in the waning years of her life, and then did so again for Julie as her time drew near and then again for Eddie. Beatrice enjoyed gardening, reading, keeping up on current events. Nothing pleased her more than admiring her work after a long morning spent gardening, even into her 90th year.
Beatrice leaves behind four children, Kathy (Phillip) Armentano, William (Arlene) Doherty, Mary (James) Smith, and Christine (Peter) Wlodkoski, and her four grandchildren, Lindsay, Nicholas, Sarah, & Emma. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by nine brothers and sisters.
Relatives and friends may gather with her family during calling hours on Sunday December 11, 2016 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. at Browne Memorial Funeral Chapels, Enfield. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday December 12, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. in St. Bernard Church 426 Hazard Ave. Enfield. Interment will follow in the Somers Center Cemetery, Somers, CT. Memorial donations in her memory may be made to St. Jude’s Children Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude PL Memphis, TN 38105-9959.
