Obituary for Byron G. Abreu

Byron G. Abreu
Byron Abreu, of New York City and Roxbury, CT died January 10, 2017 at his home from the complications of a stroke sustained 7/6/15. Born and raised in Stockton, CA. He attended local schools graduating from The University of The Pacific with a B.A. He served 2 years in the Korean conflict returning home to a teaching position in Stockton. Under the GI bill he returned to school to study acting at The Pasadena Playhouse receiving a second B.A. in Theater Arts. While on the West coast, he did extra work in films. Moving to NYC, he appeared in off Broadway productions, stage managed, modeled and did extra work in film and television. He became a teacher in the NYC system for 35 years teaching at PS 4 and PS 142. He maintained his interest in films and theater attending often. He self-published a children's book The Ice Queen and the Sun King. His interests ranged from playing bridge, gardening, his home in CT, dancing, (a onetime gentleman host on the QE2), health practices, various charities keeping up with his many, many friends and always being up for a good time. He is a member of SAG-AFTRA, Equity and SAGE. He leaves behind several cousins, many loving friends and his partner of 39 years, husband of 7 months, Dan Ruggiero. He was predeceased by his mother Henrietta nee Davis and his father Joseph "Battling Joe" Abrew. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Friday Jan. 20, 2017 at 11:00 am in St. Patrick Church, Enfield, CT. Interment will follow in St. Patrick’s King St. Cemetery in Enfield, CT.
