Gerald "Jerry" Francis  Flanagan, Sr.
Gerald “Jerry” Francis Flanagan, Sr., 83, of Enfield, passed in to eternal rest on Sunday March 5, 2017 at St. Francis Hospital, Hartford, CT. He was born on Dec. 10, 1933 in Providence, Rhode Island to the late Charles R. and Celia A. (Johnson) Flanagan and resided in Enfield for many years. He was a graduate of LaSalle Academy, Providence, RI. He then enlisted into the US Air Force and served his country proudly during the end of the Korean War. He retired after 25 years as an Air Traffic Controller with the FAA, at Bradley International Airport and then worked as a school bus driver for Smyth Bus for over 20 years.
He is survived by his wife of 13 years Barbara (Ferland) Flanagan and his family, a daughter; Kathleen “Kathy” Flanagan of Bristol, CT, a daughter-in-law; Lynda (Lucey) Flanagan of Enfield, six grandchildren; Jerry F. Flanagan, III & his wife Carissa, Jennifer Flanagan & Chris Oliver, Sarah Flanagan, Lindsey Flanagan, Kelsey Faas & husband Nicholas, and Megin Flanagan, and a great-granddaughter; Celia Lynch, along with many nieces and nephews. Jerry was predeceased by his 1st wife; Agnes (Nickson) Flanagan, son; Gerald “Jerry” F. Flanagan, Jr. and brother; Charles R. Flanagan, II.
There are no Calling Hours, A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday March 11, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. in St. Bernard Church 426 Hazard Ave. in Enfield (Please go directly to church). Burial with military honors will follow in St. Patrick’s King St. Cemetery, Enfield. Browne Memorial Funeral Chapels, Enfield has been entrusted with his arrangements. In lieu of flowers the family has requested memorial contributions be made in his son Jerry F. Flanagan, Jr’s memory to the Yale Melanoma Research Program (SZNOL) C/O Dr. Sznol, Yale Cancer Ctr. Office of Development, P.O. Box 7611 New Haven, CT 06519.
