Louis A.  Santoro
Louis Santoro, 88, passed away peacefully at his home on March 13, 2017 with his wife Lucy (Spada) of 66 years at his side. Louis was born in Hartford where he lived most of his life until moving to Wethersfield in 1965. He attended Hartford High School and enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1945 to 1951 serving in the Pacific during the Korean Conflict. Upon his return home, he completed his high school education and started a family and professional career as part owner of Associated Plumbing & Heating in Rockville, CT. He later worked for the city of Hartford, first with the Board of Education and was later appointed to the office of Chief Plumbing Inspector in Hartford. Louis enjoyed an exceptional reputation for quality work and tireless efforts in the 35 years he dedicated to Hartford Public Works. He also taught part time at Adult Education in and around Harford as a licensing instructor to professional plumbing students. Upon his retirement in 1993 from service in Hartford. Louis joined the Town of Wethersfield as the Plumbing & Mechanical Inspector.
Louis was lifelong parishioner of St. Luke’s Catholic Church in Hartford, where he served as a Eucharistic Minister at local nursing homes. He was active both in the church choir and the Legion of Mary.
Louis loved spending time with family & friends, especially his grandchildren. He loved music, golf, Yankee baseball, UConn Women and Men’s basketball and playing cards with his Pallini buddies. He was a member of Knights of Columbus, Young Italian American Association, the Pallini Club, and the Plumbing & Heating Inspectors Association of CT where he also served as President.
He is survived by his wife, Lucy, their 3 children, Theresa (Jack) Smith of Westbrook; David (Liza) Santoro of Vernon; and Laura-Jean (Gil) Cyr of St. Louis, MO. He leaves 6 loving grandchildren, Justin, Lauren and Lucas Donais; Kyle Cyr, Erica (Blair) Turley and April Kelly. He also leaves 2 great grandchildren, Maya Kelly and Patrick John Turley, as well as many loving nieces and nephews.
Louis is predeceased by his brothers Joseph, Salvatore, Sam Santoro and his sisters, Anne and Beatrice Santoro.
There will be a Mass of Christian Burial at St Luke’s Catholic Church, 66 Bolton Street Hartford, CT on April 1, 2017 at 10:00AM. Family will gather to greet friends at St Luke’s beginning at 9:00AM. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. Memorial donations in Louis’s memory may be made to St. Luke Church 66 Bolton Street Hartford, CT 06114. Browne Memorial Funeral Chapels Enfield, CT has been entrusted with his arrangements.
