Ida M. Ledbetter Webb, of Enfield, CT, wife of 54 years to James W. Webb, and mother of son Anthony Webb, also of Enfield, CT, and daughter, Marcy Webb, of Bloomfield, CT, was called home on Thursday May 11, 2017, following a short illness. She passed surrounded by loving family, and friends, and her pastor, the Reverend Dr. Kelly Littlejohn, Jr.
Ida was the daughter of Esther and James Ledbetter of Easley, SC, both deceased, and the sister of Clara Rutledge of Williamston, SC, also deceased. Ida was born in Easley, SC on March 17, 1936. She graduated from Simpson High School, also in Easley, in 1954, where she was a cheerleader for the football team and a member of the Glee Club. Ida then relocated to Hartford, CT, where she worked for Brown Thompson Department Store, and married her husband James. In 1965, Ida became an engineering technician for Stanadyne Diesel Systems, where she worked for 33 years before retiring in 1998. In 1971, Ida and her family relocated to Enfield, CT, where she resided for the remainder of her life. Ida was a loyal and faithful member of Third Baptist Church of Suffield, CT from 1983 until her passing. She served as president of the Usher Board and the Flower Club, and a co-founder of the Gospel Harmonizers. She was also an active member of United Ushers, Hartford Unit, and received an award for dedicated service in 2003.
Ida was a kind and loving and person who touched the lives of everyone who knew her in a positive and memorable way. She enjoyed flowers, nature, her home, good conversations, and her family, and, for much of her life, gardening.
In addition to her husband and children, Ida leaves behind Merinda Jackson of Easley SC, and Sharon Jones, of Greenville, SC, who were first cousins, but more like sisters; her nephew, Douglas Rutledge, of Williamston, SC; and many wonderful friends, including Sharon Zapolski, of Enfield, CT, her neighbor for more than 40 years, and who considered Ida her spiritual mother.
Ida supported several animal advocacy organizations, for she felt that animals could not speak for themselves. The family also acknowledges the outstanding efforts of the nurses and doctors of the Johnson Memorial Medical Center ICU.
Calling hours are from 5-8 pm on Wednesday May 17th at Browne Memorial Funeral Chapels 43 Shaker Rd. Enfield, CT and the funeral service is at 12 pm on Thursday May 18th, at Third Baptist Church 188 Kent Ave. Suffield, CT. The burial will follow in the Hazardville Cemetery in Enfield, followed by a repast in the Third Baptist Church Fellowship Hall.
