Obituary for Shirley A. Arre (Mortell)

Shirley  A.  Arre (Mortell)
Shirley A. Arre, of Enfield, passed away peacefully on Sunday May 28, 2017 at Hartford Hospital with her loving family at her side. Born in Chicopee, MA on May 18, 1935, the daughter of the late Thomas & Emma (Leclair) Mortell. She graduated from Holy Name H.S. in Chicopee MA and resided in Enfield for most of her life.
Shirley was employed as an FAA Inspector for over 30 years, retiring in 2010 from Turbine Controls in Bloomfield, CT at age 75. She enjoyed watching her “programs”, Boston Red Sox, trips to Mohegan Sun, and playing poker on Saturday nights with her fellow card players – Dottie Africano, Mary Brennen, Carol Brennen, Beverly Noble, Maureen Warzyski and John Newkirk.
Shirley is survived by her five daughters Deborah Storer & husband William of East Granby, CT; Marie Arre & husband John Newkirk of Winsted, CT; Concetta Arre of Enfield, CT; Stephanie Silver of Enfield, CT; and Michelle Arre of Enfield, CT; six grandchildren Valerie Storer & her fiancé Steven Lavoie of Bristol, CT; Kristen Carleton & husband Bob of Broad Brook, CT; William Storer, III & wife Samantha of Cromwell, CT; Robert Silver, Jr of East Windsor, CT; Matthew Newkirk of Charleston, SC; and Kimberly Newkirk of Channing, TX; three great-grandchildren Samuel and Zachary Lavoie of Bristol, CT; and Landen Carleton of Broad Brook, CT; a sister Anne Rossi & husband Michael of Suffield, CT; along with several nieces and nephews, and her loving dog, Chester.
Shirley was predeceased by the love of her life, her husband Steven Arre, a granddaughter, Victoria Storer; two sons-in-law Robert Silver, Sr, and Bradford West; two sisters Irene Rumore and Rita Hundley; a brother Francis Mortell; three nephews – Jerome Hundley, Joseph Hundley and Anthony Arre and a niece Kathleen Rumore.
The family wishes to thank the doctors, nurses, and staff at Hartford Hospital as well as the nurses and staff of Fresenius -Western Hartford Dialysis for their compassionate and excellent care of Shirley. The family also wishes to give special thanks to Denise Wilby for loving care she provided Shirley.
Relatives and friends may gather with Shirley’s family during calling hours on Wed. May 31, 2017 from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Thurs. June 1, 2017 with the funeral procession forming at 9:00 a.m. to St. Patrick Church for a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow in St. Patrick’s King St. Cemetery, Enfield.
