Leroy C. Wright, 87, of Enfield, passed away peacefully after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease, on Thursday, October 05, 2017. Leroy was born on July 26, 1930 in New Haven, CT to the late Donovan and Gladys (Gale) Wright. He lived his childhood in Hamden, CT and his married life mostly in Enfield. Leroy served in the US Army and Army Reserve, where he attained the rank of Captain. He later worked for the CT Department of Corrections, where he was a Medical Technologist in Somers maximum security prison.
Leroy is predeceased by his wife of 64 years, Ellen I. (Hall) Wright, and his daughter Priscilla E. Rancourt. Leroy leaves behind two sons; Charles Wright & wife Ann, Timothy Wright, and son-in-law Joseph Rancourt. He also leaves behind five beloved grandchildren; Andrea Ruff, Dawn Johnson, Tim Rancourt, Jennifer Cristelli, and Charles D. Wright, and four great-grandchildren, along with several nieces and nephews.
A selflessly dedicated husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, he devoted his life to caring for his family, home, and church. Leroy was a 57-year member of the Enfield Congregational Church, where he was very active in all facets of church life, and was a wonderful tenor in the choir for over 50 of those years. Earlier in his life, he volunteered many years as a Boy Scout leader. Leroy made many stain glass creations, which were lovingly given throughout the family. Along with gardening, Leroy and Ellen together enjoyed travel, especially when it included their love for birding.
Relatives and friends may gather with her family during calling hours on Monday, October 9, 2017 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Browne Memorial Funeral Chapels, in Enfield. A Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, October 10, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. in the Enfield Congregational Church 1295 Enfield Street Enfield, CT (Meet at church). Committal will then follow in the Hazardville Cemetery, Enfield. CT. Memorial donations in Leroy’s memory may be made to the Enfield Congregational Church 1295 Enfield St. Enfield, CT 06082.
