Obituary for Joseph P. Cignetti

CIGNETTI. Joseph Peter Cignetti, 84 of Longmeadow, MA, passed away October 8, 2017. He lost his battle with a stroke which occurred a week earlier. He was a bright, fun loving, vibrant, strong person who loved life.
Family was everything to him. Not long ago, his sister, Ellie, was injured. Joe dropped everything, flew across country, and spent four months by her side arranging all her care and affairs. He loved his nephews and nieces, and took pride in being a “Great Great-Uncle”. Foremost in his life were his wife of 38 years, Sondra, and his son, Chad. Because of Joe, there was no trial nor tribulation they ever had to face alone. His greatest joy was to see them happy.
No matter what was going on in Joe’s life, his thoughts were for whoever called or saw him. He was a calming influence, and could always be counted on to soothe a troubled mind. His warm personality and comical t-shirts brought a smile to others.
At home, Joe loved spending time with his Doberman, Lila. He enjoyed silly romantic comedies. Out and about, he went to the gym every day, enjoyed friendships through his weight-loss group, golfing and was captain of his bowling team.
Joe was born in Malden, MA to the late Joseph and Jennier (Veratose) Cignetti. He graduated from Hartford High School and then attended the University of Hartford prior to honorably serving his country in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict. He retired from Stanadyne Inc. after numerous years of service.
Joseph will be missed by his sister in law Ann (Nancy) Cignetti & family; his beloved dog Lila; along with many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by nine brothers and sisters. Funeral Services are private at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in the Massachusetts Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, Agawam, MA. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to the Dakin Pioneer Valley Humane Society, P.O. Box 6307, Springfield, MA 01101.
