Bill Nelson, 85. of Enfield, entered into eternal rest on Saturday Oct. 14, 2017 in the comfort of his home with his loving family at his side. He was the beloved husband of 53 years to Phyllis E. (Sullivan) Nelson. Bill was born on Oct. 2, 1932 in Logan County, WV to the late Dewey and Ruby (Cook) Nelson. He had resided in Enfield for many years. Bill served his country proudly with the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. Prior to retiring in 1987 Bill was employed with The Traveler’s Insurance Co. for 25 years. He enjoyed golfing, he loved spending time with his family especially the grandchildren and great-grandchildren and was a Red Sox and N.E. Patriots fan.
In addition to his wife Phyllis, Bill is survived by his children: Dennis Nelson & wife Jean of Springfield, MA, Jill Nelson also of Springfield, MA, Bill Nelson of West Hartford, Dawn Nelson & Dean Bickford of Enfield, Hope Owens & husband Tom of Enfield, his thirteen grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother David Nelson & wife Kathy of Englewood, FL, along with many nieces and nephews. Bill was predeceased by a son Mark Nelson and a daughter Beth Nelson.
Relatives and friends may gather with his family during calling hours on Thursday Oct. 19, 2017 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. followed by a Memorial Service at 7:00 p.m. with Fr. John Melnick officiating at Browne Memorial Funeral Chapels, Enfield, CT. Burial will be at the convenience of his family. Memorial donations in his memory may be made to the American Stroke Assoc.
