James Patrick Powers, of Douglas, MA, passed from his earthly journey at the age of 68, on Friday Oct. 20, 2017 at UMASS Memorial Medical Ctr. Worcester, MA. James was born on March 17, 1949 in Providence, RI to the late James F. and Mary C. (Pacheco) Powers. James was a graduate of A.I. Prince Technical H.S. Hartford, CT. He recently returned home to New England to retire, after a decade of his career being spent in San Diego, CA. A fifty-year career as a draftsman both traditional and digital, contracting for various corporations and industries across the country. He was Alumnus of Hazardville Toreadors Drum Corps, Hazardville, CT; Alumnus of the Rode Island Matadors of Drum Corps International. James was an avid bowler and billiards player, staying industrious in his downtime with woodworking and cooking, enjoyed an interest in performance vehicles; visiting his “pets” at the zoo or walking barefoot on a sandy shoreline, Atlantic or Pacific, or otherwise, and always making time to share an encyclopedic array of advice, knowledge, and stories from his youth.
James is survived by his three children; Aaron James Powers of Douglas, MA, Jessica Mae Powers and Melinda Jean Powers both of San Diego, CA, his siblings; Rosemary Donovan & husband Greg of Vernon, CT, Ralph Powers & wife Ginny, Maryjo Lessard & husband Kevin all of Enfield, along with many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins throughout the Southern New England region.
Besides his parents, he was also predeceased by a sister Margaret Ann Bass and a nephew Timothy James Lessard.
At the request of James, services will be private at the convenience of his family.
