Obituary for Karen G. Bishop (McAnanama)

Karen G. Bishop (McAnanama)
Karen G. Bishop, 60, of Enfield, CT passed on to eternal life on Sunday, November 5, 2017 surrounded by her loving family. Karen was born in Springfield, MA on February 12, 1957, to the late Mary and James McAnanama. She attended Cathedral High School and graduated from Boston College in 1978, where she received a bachelor’s of science in nursing. She met William Bishop during the first weekend of college and they were married on August 20, 1977, recently celebrating their 40th anniversary. Karen dedicated the majority of her life to the service of others as a nurse. She worked at Providence Hospital in Holyoke, MA for over 10 years, as well as at many other area hospitals, concluding her career serving 15 years as the school nurse at Enrico Fermi High School in Enfield, CT. Family was the most important thing in her life. Karen was a loving mother, actively involved in her children’s lives by spending every weekend at swimming meets, volleyball games, soccer games, and track meets. She was a devoted daughter and sister. In her spare time, Karen had a passion for cooking and showed a great love of dogs by rescuing several from local adoption agencies. Karen and her husband spent much of their vacation time in Cape May, NJ and Ocean City, MD where they loved the beach and Maryland blue crab. They visited Abbott’s Lobster in Noank, CT on opening and closing day every year, and would regularly drive all the way to Seabrook, NH for a lobster at Brown’s Lobster Pound.
Karen is survived by her husband, William Bishop; her two children Kathleen (Bishop) Becker and her husband Jody Becker of Scarborough, ME, and Michael Bishop and his wife Erica Bishop of Arlington, MA; her brothers John Mack and his wife Patricia Mack of Westfield, MA, and Steven McAnanama and his wife Wendy McAnanama of Agawam, MA.
A celebration of her life will be held at Browne Memorial Funeral Chapels in Enfield, CT on Thursday November 9th from 5-8 pm. Funeral Services will be on Friday November 10th with a Mass of Christian Burial in Holy Family Church in Enfield, CT at 10:00 am (Meet at church). Burial will be at the convenience of the family in St. Michael’s Cemetery in Springfield, MA. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, American Lab Rescue (Willington, CT), or Connecticut Humane Society (Newington, CT).
