Obituary for Joseph John Muratore

Joseph John Muratore
Joseph John Muratore went home to the Lord on November 10, 2017. Joseph was born in Thompsonville, CT on January 26, 1926, to the late Antonio and Josephine Muratore. Joseph was a WWII veteran and served in the Unites State Navy from April 4, 1944, to June 10, 1946. His ship was in Tokyo Bay on September 2, 1945, during the signing of the Japanese Instrument of Surrender, which ended WWII. Joseph worked for the Springfield Armory in Springfield, MA; Bigelow-Sanford Rugs and Carpets Company in Thompsonville, CT; Offset Printing in Springfield, MA; and as a correctional officer for the State of Connecticut Department of Corrections in Somers, CT, where he retired after more than 20 years. Joseph had the gift of laughter, which he shared with most everyone he met, from family and friends to total strangers. He loved tending his garden, growing delicious tomatoes and peppers; singing, especially the songs made famous by Dean Martin, Al Martino, Tony Bennett, and Frank Sinatra; and having meals with extended family which stretched from lunch through dinner time. Some of his happiest days were spent on summer vacations at Old Saybrook, CT, where he enjoyed fishing, boating, swimming, eating (clams & lobster), and playing miniature golf with his children, niece and nephews.
The most important thing to Joseph was his family. He is survived by his children, Maureen Muratore-Ray of Corona CA; Anthony Muratore and his wife Dawn Lawson of Stafford, CT; Cheryl McCurry and her husband Steve of Portland, OR; his step-daughter Janice Budington and her husband Peter of Somers, CT; 3 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; 2 first cousins; 4 nieces; and 9 nephews.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, November 30, 2017, at 12:00 pm at the Browne Memorial Funeral Home located at 43 Shaker Rd., Enfield, CT., with burial immediately following (weather permitting) in the Old St. Patrick Cemetery in Thompsonville, CT. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to The Friends of the Soldier’s Home, Inc. (a non-profit entity), P.O. Box 1338, Holyoke, MA 01041.
