Lena M. (DiSciacca) Devine, 101, died peacefully on Friday Jan. 26, 2018, at Parkway Pavilion Healthcare. A lifelong resident of Enfield, CT she was born on October 30, 1916, in the Thompsonville section of Enfield, daughter of the late Vincenzo and Rosalia (DiChiara) DiSciacca. Lena attended local elementary schools and graduated from Enfield High School, class of 1935. After graduating, she worked at Bigelow-Sanford Carpet Co. in Enfield, CT and took continuing education classes in typing, cost accounting, and stenography at the Katharine Gibbs Secretarial School. She continued her career as an Executive Secretary in various departments at Bigelow-Sanford and at a local real estate agency until her retirement in 1971. After retirement, Lena enjoyed traveling, sewing, and bus trips to Mohegan Sun Casino with her beloved late husband, Bill. She was an active member of the Connecticut Historical Society and the University of the Third Age at Asnuntuck Community College. She was a communicant of St. Patrick’s Church in Enfield, CT. Lena was predeceased by her husband of 58 years, William H. Devine, as well as her brothers Anthony DiSciacca, Charles DiSciacca, Joseph DiSciacca, and her sisters, Anna DiSciacca and Rosalie DiSciacca. Lena is survived by her loving daughter and son-in-law, Carol Ann and James Conlon of Wilbraham, MA., and many nieces and nephews who she loved dearly. The family wishes to express their gratitude to the staff of Blair Manor… Lena’s family for the past 10 years …especially her two angels Gwen and Cathy, and to Dr. Masih, for their compassion, kindness and love. They would also like to thank the staff at Parkway Pavilion…especially Becky and Dawn…who took wonderful care of Lena for the three short weeks she resided there. Visitation will be on Thursday, Feb. 1, 2018 from 9:00 AM until 11:00 AM at the Browne Memorial Funeral Chapels, 43 Shaker Rd., Enfield, CT. concluding with a funeral home service at 11:00 AM. Burial services will be private.
