Florence (Arieti) Blackwelder, of Enfield, entered into eternal life at the age of 94 on Wednesday (May 21, 2014) at Parkway Pavilion/Kindred Healthcare. She was the beloved wife of 50 years to the late Norman A. Blackwelder, She was born on June 5, 1919 in Springfield, MA, the daughter of the late Eugene and Asunta (Cignoli) Arieti and resided in Enfield most of her life. After High School Florence furthered her education and received her RN Degree from Mercy Hospital. She was employed as an industrial nurse with Pratt & Whitney for several years and then retired from Buxton’s in Agawam. MA after 30 years of service, she also was a volunteer years ago with the Enfield Ambulance. Florence was a member of the Enfield Senior Citizen’s where she enjoyed playing Bingo, a very devout catholic she was a parishioner of St. Martha Church. A loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother Florence was very dedicated to her family.
She is survived by two sons, Norman Blackwelder, II, and Joseph Blackwelder & his wife Barbara, a daughter, Teresa B. Welch & spouse, John Guzie all of Enfield, her beloved five grandchildren; Tricia, Nicole, Joey & Jeffrey Blackwelder and Philippe Bullington and cherished great granddaughter, Jayliana Harley. She is also survived by a sister-in-law, Cora Arieti of Springfield, MA, and brother-in-law, Nathan Blackwelder & his wife Lucille of NC, along with many nieces, nephews, her best friend, Louise Rogerson and lifelong friends, Joe & Vera Courey. Florence was also predeceased by a brother, Albert Arieti, three sisters, Alice Collins, Rita Warrnier and Stella Butler.
Relatives and friends may gather with her family during calling hours on Tuesday (May 27, 2014) from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Browne Memorial Funeral Chapels, Enfield. Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday (May 28, 2014) with the procession forming at 9:00 from the funeral home to St. Martha Church for a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow in St. Patrick’s King Street Cemetery, Enfield. Memorial donations in her memory may be made to St. Martha Church 214 Brainard Rd. Enfield, CT 06082.
