Alva “Alfie” A. (Lakonski) Landry, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Oct. 31, 2018 at the age of 91. Born in Somersville, CT on November 26, 1926 to John and Mary (Vitkauskas) Lakonski. Alva was a graduate of Rockville H.S. She married Walter T. Landry on October 10, 1953 in Enfield, CT. They made Enfield their home for the past 65 years. Alva was employed with Somersville Mill for several years, but loved her job at Parkway Pavilion, where she worked as a nurse’s aide. She loved the patients and her co-workers, but her patients were first and foremost. She was always quick to lend a helping hand to visiting physicians; i.e. Dr. Steven Damon, DPM & Dr. George Donahue, MD. Her bedside manner was undisputed. Alva was a mentor to new employees who would aspire to follow in her footsteps. Alva finally retired in 2007, at the age of 81, after 30+ years of service. Alva was devoted to her husband, daughters, and grandchildren. She was fun loving and was always expected to be the life of the party. She loved polkas, dancing, Christmas Bazaars, baking (her specialty was lemon lush), getting together with family and friends, especially her annual summer parties at Hall Hill Gardens, and watching the Yankees on TV, but most of all she loved the time spent with her family and grandchildren. Alva always made each grandchild feel special and there was never a dull moment when she was around. She was known for her “Nanny tickles!”. Alva will be missed by all she knew.
Alva is survived by her husband Walter T. Landry, her three daughters, Shereen Landry of Enfield, CT, Celine Peach and her husband Jeff of Enfield, CT, and Gayle Odell of South Windsor, CT, her five grandchildren, Jake Odell, Sam Odell, Max Odell, Macy Peach and Jeffrey Peach, along with many nieces, nephews and friends. Besides her parents, Alva was predeceased by her two brothers and their wives, Leonard & Leone Lakonski, and John & Helen Lakonski, and her son-in-law, Skip Odell.
Her family would especially like to thank Eileen & Joann of Masonicare Partners for their wonderful & compassionate care these past two weeks, as well as Dr. George Donahue, Ceil & staff, and Dr. Shiba Jhawar for their care over the years.
Relatives and friends may gather with her family on Sunday, November 4, 2018 from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Browne Memorial Chapels, Enfield. Funeral services will take place on Monday, November 5, 2018 with the procession forming at the funeral home at 10:00 a.m. to St. Joseph’s Chapel/Little Sisters of the Poor for a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow in St. Patrick’s King St. Cemetery, Enfield. The family has requested memorial contributions in her memory be made to Masonicare Partners, Home Health & Hospice, 111 Founders Plaza, Ste. 200 East Hartford, CT 06108 or St. Joseph’s Residence/Little Sisters of the Poor 1365 Enfield Street Enfield, CT 06082.
