Anita Eloise Lindsey Vieweg Myers, 80, of Granby, CT entered eternal peace on February 10,
2021, after a long, courageous battle with cancer.
Anita Lindsey was born in Gardner, MA on March 7, 1940 to Arthur and Josie (Haskins)
Lindsey. She graduated from Athol High School in 1958. Upon graduation, she worked for a
utility company in Gardner, MA. On April 15, 1961, she married the “love of her life” Frederick
Vieweg in Athol, MA. Three sons (William, Eric, and Douglas) were born to this union.
After a short stint living in Springfield, VT, Fred and Anita moved to Granby, CT for Fred’s job as
a corporate pilot. Tragically, a fatal accident took Fred’s life on March 19, 1968, leaving Anita to
raise their three sons.
She thrived as a parent, not only to her sons, but as a surrogate mother to numerous
neighborhood boys, who referred to her as “Mrs. V” to this day. She was very involved in her
kids’ lives as Cub Scout Den Mother, volunteer at Cossitt Library, and constant supporter for her
sons’ sports, activities, and interests. She would regularly make self-sacrifices for the good of
her children.
After her sons had begun their independent lives, she continued her work life at Stanley Sack
and Company, before retiring as an executive assistant at Veeder Root.
She was a fantastic baker, as her famous Christmas cookies and fruit cake were renowned
amongst family and friends. She also had a passion for music, dancing, writing, swimming, very
difficult jigsaw puzzles, and days at the beach. She appreciated a lively game of “31” and
watching “Jeopardy” and “Wheel of Fortune.”
Anita was pre-deceased by her parents, Arthur and Josie Lindsey, and her siblings: Gerald,
Arthur Jr., Thaddeus, David, and Faye.
Survivors include her sons and their wives: William (Kristina) Vieweg, Ellington, CT; Eric
(Teresa) Vieweg, Wethersfield, CT; Douglas (Kendra) Vieweg; and seven grandchildren: Adam,
Augustus, Matthew, Lindsey, Christopher, Maximillian, and Lucas.
A private graveside service will be held in Westminster, MA. The family requests memorials be
directed to Cancer Care at Saint Francis Hospital, c/o Saint Francis Foundation, 95 Woodland
Street, Hartford, CT 06105 (giving.stfrancisdonor.com).
