Obituary for Carmen A. Roy (Albert)

Carmen A. (Albert) Roy, 84, of Enfield, passed away on Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2018 at St. Francis Hospital & Medical Ctr., in Hartford, CT. She had suffered from declining health for several years. She was the beloved wife of Rosaire J. Roy for 63 years.
Carmen and Rosaire were married on April 23, 1955 and lived on an army base in Yorktown, VA. When they left the military they took their growing family to an apartment in Springfield, MA, and eventually built a home in Enfield, CT, where they remained for 58 years. They raised four children: Paul Roy and wife Lynn of Enfield, Sue Sinsigalli & husband Chris of Enfield, Steve Roy & Carmella Michon of Jacksonville, FL and Judy Guarco & husband John of Mansfield. Five loving children had the honor of calling Carmen, “Grandma”: Christopher Sinsigalli, Jeffrey Roy, Chelsea Deziel, Megan Galluci, and Alex Guarco. Carmen also had three (soon to be four, in 2019) great grandchildren.
Carmen worked in their Enfield home to raise her four children; once the youngest was in school, Carmen entered the workforce. At the department store W.T. Grants, she unknowingly worked next to her future son-in-law, Chris. From there, she did clerical work for Brescome Distributors of South Windsor and eventually retired from IMS, Inc. of Manchester.
Some of her favorite pastimes during retirement were reading and crocheting. Carmen and Rosaire did absolutely everything together, including attend mass at Holy Family Church in Enfield. They became UCONN basketball enthusiasts for both the men’s and women’s teams. Another favorite activity was playing Charlemagne and Setback with nieces Annette Hathaway and Carol Roy.
Carmen was born on March 10, 1934 in the northern town of Stockholm, ME. Her parents Patrick and Leona (Legasse) Albert had a farm; working on this farm gave Carmen and her siblings an amazing work ethic. Carmen was predeceased by two sisters, Cecile (Albert) Levesque, and Rachel (Albert) Cyr, and two brothers, Roland Albert and Roger Albert.
Her surviving sister, Geneva Roy of East Millinocket, ME, has been a continued confidant of Carmen’s, despite the many miles between them. She is also survived by two sisters-in-law, Madeline Willett, of Patten, ME, and Louise Albert, of Van Buren, ME, along with many nieces and nephews. Carmen attended St. Agatha High School in St. Agatha, ME, where she made lifelong, endearing friends that continue to keep in touch: Joan and Dave Oliveira of Bristol, CT, and Bob and Velma Durand of Fiskdale, MA.
Carmen’s family will receive relatives and friends on Sunday, December 16, 2018 from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. at Browne Memorial Chapels, Enfield, CT. Funeral Services will be held on Monday, Dec. 17, 2018 with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Family Church (St. Jeanne Jugan Parish) Enfield, CT. Interment will follow in the Hazardville Cemetery, in Enfield. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in her memory may be made to St. Vincent de Paul Society, 23 Simon Rd. Enfield, CT 06082.
