Obituary for Chester V. Falkowski

Lt. Col. Chester V. Falkowski, 98, USAFR-Retired, beloved husband of Anna E. (Malyski) Falkowski, passed away on Wednesday, Jan. 6, 2021 at St. Francis Hospital, Hartford. Born in Suffield, CT to the late Walter and Christina (Murkowicz) Falkowski, and was a resident of Enfield, since 1932 and was educated both in the Enfield School system and Hartford State Trade School. Chester volunteered for the Army Air Corps Aviation Cadet program, graduating as a pilot and served in the China Burma India Theater of war in World War II, flying many missions in support of the Chinese Nationalist Army in the war against Japan. Chester was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Air Medal, the Presidential Unit Citation, a medal from China, Chinese Air Force Pilot Wings and Asiatic Pacific Theater Medal, Airman Victory medal and others. Following the war, he served in the Air Force Reserve retiring as a Lt. Col. He also served in the CT Civil Air Patrol as pilot and instructor of Civil Air Patrol Cadets. Chester was co-founder of the Enfield Aero Club and served as the Check Pilot and other official positions. Chester was employed for 25 years with Hamilton Standard/Sundstrand, Windsor Locks retiring in 1987 as foreman in the Engineering Labs Model Shop. He was a member of the American Legion Post 154, the Distinguished Flying Cross Society, and St. Bernard Church. Chester was an outdoorsman, an avid downhill skier and a motorcyclist. Chester was the father of four children, Barbara Goodale of Cape Cod, MA, Karen Carmel of Mystic, CT, Janice Wajda of Wilbraham, MA and Mark and wife, Lynne of Enfield and five grandchildren, Jesse Goodale, Theresa, Regina, Andrea and David Falkowski, He was predeceased by a son-in-law Frank Wajda, and his brothers, Charles Falkowski, Leon Falkowski, Henry Falkowski, Victor Falkowski, Frank Falkowski, Edward Falkowski, and two sisters, Elizabeth Strycharz and Florence Jones. Memorial Donations in Chesters memory may be made to St. Bernard’s Church.Please make checks payable to St. Jeanne Jugan Parish. Calling hours are on Friday, Jan. 8, 2021 from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at Browne Memorial Chapels, Enfield, Funeral services will take place on Saturday, Jan. 9, 2021 at 10:00 am in St. Bernard’s Church (St. Jeanne Jugan Parish) 425 Hazard Ave. Enfield, CT (Go directly to church). Burial will be in St. Bernard Cemetery, Enfield, CT. Mask and social distancing are required during services.
