Obituary for Dawn M. Furey (Avery)

Dawn M. (Avery) Furey

Dawn passed at home on Friday December 17th at the age of 65 after a long, hard fought battle with diabetes. Known for her strength and courage she was an accomplished artist and writer. Dawn was in love with life, nature, family, friends and her ultimate joy fishing. Prior to her death Dawn would spend hours fishing on the ocean with her father Mel Avery. For the past 20 years she also fished every day she could on her best friend Guy Beaudoin's boat or on the banks of the CT river or Windsor Locks canal with the love of her life, her son, Casey.
Dawn graduated from Enfield High in 1974 and went on to work at Collins farm where she would sometimes work from sun up to sun down with her cousin Jack. She eventually spent time working at Hallmark Cards as a filler, sorter.
She is survived by her son Casey Furey and his partner Jacquelyn Tyrell and the absolute joy of her life her grandson Asher Furey of Enfield CT, her mother and step-father Rhoda and Bill Bourgoin of Orange City Fla., her sisters April and William Bragg of South Carolina and Robin and Steve Longtin of Bolton, CT. She is also survived by her step-mother Pauline Avery and her children Kathy, Steven, Richard, Julie and Michael Bourgoin, Melinda and Steve Muenzer of Colchester CT and Melvin and Kathy Avery of Fla., as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews and other relatives. She was predeceased by her father Melvin Avery who was her idol and mentor
Dawn loved the outdoors and worshiped nature. With that in mind her wishes upon her death was for her family and friends to celebrate her life outdoors at her favorite place where they could laugh, tell stories and remember her and the life she lived and spread some of her ashes. This will occur in the spring at a date that will be announced when determined. Donations in her name can be made to the American Diabetes Association.
