Obituary for Donald Francis Maguire

Donald Francis Maguire, 84, of Enfield, entered into Eternal Rest on Sunday, December 2, 2018 with loved ones at his side. He was the beloved husband of 57 years to Elizabeth “Betty” Abramek. Donald was born on April 19, 1934 in Hartford, CT a son of the late Charles & Elizabeth (Fitzpatrick) Maguire, he resided in Enfield for the past 54 years. He received his teaching degree after attending UCONN and the University of Hartford. Prior to retiring Don taught for 37 years elementary school students for the Town of Farmington, CT. Don was a member of the CT Army National Guard, the Connecticut Education Association, St. Casimir Society and the Sons of St. Patrick. He was an avid fan of UCONN Women’s Basketball, Crosswords, Cryptogram and Suduko, he enjoyed reading especially WW II History, and loved swimming in his pool.
In addition to his wife Betty, he is survived by his three children, Stephen Maguire of Stafford, CT, David Maguire of Union, KY and Mary-Kate Armstrong of Algonquin, IL, his three beloved grandchildren, Alleigh Maguire, Katie Armstrong and Emily Armstrong, his sister-in-law & brother-in-law, Janice & Michael Casparino of Wethersfield, CT, along with nieces, Karen Kiley and Michelle Kuhlberg and nephews, Michael Casparino and Mark Casparino, and special life-long friends, Jim & Jinny Pucillo. Besides his parents he was predeceased by a sister, Millicent Kellogg & husband Charles, a brother Charles Maguire & wife Maureen and Charles V. Maguire, II. Don’s family would like to especially thank his caregivers Deanne, Karen, and Colleen for the exceptional and compassionate care given to him.
Don’s family will receive relatives and friends prior to the Funeral Mass on Monday, December 10, 2018 from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial in celebration of his life will be at 11:30 a.m. in St. Adalbert Church 90 Alden Ave. Enfield, (St. Raymond of Penafort Parish) please meet at the church. Interment will follow in St. Adalbert’s Cemetery, Enfield.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions in his name may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place Memphis, TN 38105-1942.
