Eleanor (Petorelli) Ellis, of Enfield, CT, passed away at the age of 94 on Sunday, November 6, 2022. She was born on August 6, 1928 in Paterson, NJ to the late Louis A. and Lucy (Carvolo) Petorelli. She graduated from Central High School in 1946 as a member of the Rhode Island Honor Society of Secondary Schools. Eleanor was happily married to the late Albert Ellis for 54 years. She was a U.S. Women’s Army Corps (WAC) Veteran, having served with Company C, First Battalion, Third Platoon. She entered the WAC on October 14, 1949 and was discharged on November 22, 1950. Eleanor was a devoted and loving wife, mother, and grandmother who dedicated herself to caring for her family and home.
In her leisure time, Eleanor enjoyed gardening, reading, and cooking Italian food. She loved going to the beach and swimming in the ocean. She liked to challenge her mind with crossword puzzles and word searches. She also loved scrapbooking and left behind dozens of scrapbooks, including one of her time in the WAC. Eleanor is survived by her son Peter Ellis of Enfield, her daughter-in-law Laurie Ellis of Enfield, and two beloved granddaughters Brooke Ellis of Enfield and Cheyenne Ellis of Woburn, MA. She is also survived by her sister Dorothy Diiorio of Mooresville, NC, as well as her many nieces and nephews: Debbie Perdomo, Joe DelSanto, Ron Diiorio, Sandy Geroux, and Diane Ball. In addition to her parents and husband, Eleanor was predeceased by her son Richard Ellis and her brother Rudolph Petorelli. Interment will take place with military honors on Friday, November 18, 2022 at 9:00 am in the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 1390 Main Street, Agawam, MA.
