Obituary for Gary R. Damato

Gary Richard Damato, 70, of Enfield, passed away on Thursday, April 20, 2023. Born on June 13, 1952 in Hartford, CT, son of the late John and Minnie Pauline (McGee) Damato. Grew up and raised in West Hartford, then resided in Enfield for many years. After graduating from High School. He enlisted with the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War, having served from July ’69 to Dec. 70. Before retiring Gary was employed for 20 years as a mail carrier with the U.S. Postal Service in Enfield. He loved his family, watching the grandkids play sports, and avid Giants and Red Sox fan, loved to watch golf with grandson, couching little league for his boys, enjoyed bowling and many years of softball and loved being out in the sun.
He was a member of the AMVETS.
Gary is survived by his, ex-wife and and life long best friend Katherine Sevarino, his children; Gary & Roanne, Jeffrey, Erica (daughter and best friend for life) all of Enfield, and Ashley of Windsor, his grandchildren; Derek (grandson and best buddy, who was there daily until the end), also Michael, Nick, Sydni, Aiden Damato and Cam Chase, and his two great grandchildren. He is also survived by his siblings Rick Damato, John (Yak) & Pam Damato all of West Hartford, and Sandra Damato of Windsor, as well as many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents he was predeceased by his brother Michael, and two grandsons Tyler and Alex.
Services for Gary will be held on Friday, April 28, 2023 with calling hours from 11:30 am to 1:00pm, followed by a Prayer Service at 1:00pm. Interment will then take place in the Massachusetts Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery, Agawam, MA with military honors.
