Obituary for Gerald "Jerry" N. Cormier

CORMIER, Gerald (Jerry) 77 of Enfield: It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Jerry on Tuesday, February 25, 2020 at St. Francis Hospital surrounded by his loving family.
Husband of Denise (Cusack) Cormier for 38 years, Jerry was born in Hartford to the late Roger and Aurore (Robidoux) Cormier. He graduated from Bulkeley High School in 1960, and then went on to serve in the Air Force from 1961 to 1965. He worked at the Traveler’s Data Center for 23 years followed by his favorite years, owning his own business, The Contemporary Closet, from 1989 through 2008. Jerry and Denise have made their home in Enfield for the past 13 years after spending 25 years in East Granby.
Growing up, he was a fifer for Col. John Chester Fife & Drum Corps of Wethersfield and in his later years a member of the Italian American War Veterans in East Longmeadow, MA.
An avid golfer, his most memorable game was playing the Old Course at St. Andrews in Scotland. He enjoyed wine making and shared his creations with family and friends. He and his wife traveled extensively throughout Europe, and he especially enjoyed the challenge of driving on the opposite side of the road taking great pride in having never lost a side mirror.
Jerry will be remembered by his family and friends for his kind heart and sense of humor. Besides his wife Denise, Jerry leaves behind his daughters Dawn (Rodney) Morrison, Catherine (Carl) Palm and AFS daughter Eeva-Leena (Ville) Onnela of Switzerland; brother Paul (Linda) Cormier; sisters Michelle Cormier and Lynette (Jim) Cormier; grandchildren Ross, Will and Alec Morrison and Gunnar and Kelsea Palm; brother-in-law Greg Cusack; sister-in-law Geri (Marty) Ceremuga; nephews Ken (Emily) Cormier and Scott (Coleen) Ceremuga; niece Kristen (Mike) Rondeau; Jean Cormier and several great nieces, nephews and cousins. The family would like to thank all of Jerry’s friends and family for their love and support, as well as the staff at St. Francis Hospital Smilow Cancer Center and the Oncology floor for their caring words and comforting hands throughout his treatment and final days.
