Obituary for Gerald R. Violette

Gerald (Jerry) R. Violette passed away on Friday, October 20, 2023 at the age of 84. Jerry was born on March 3, 1939 in Waterville, ME to Edwin and Yvette (Veilleux) Violette. His family settled in Hartford, CT where after high school, he met and married Sandra Pronsky. Jerry served his country honorably in the Army from 1961 to 1963. They moved to Enfield, CT in 1970 and raised their two children. As faithful communicants of St. Patrick Church, Jerry and family volunteered to run the church basketball program. For 15 years their volunteer work brought the family much joy and many new friends. Because of their dedication to the basketball program and to St. Patrick Church, Fr. Anthony Bruno submitted their names to the Archdiocese of Hartford and they received the Medal of Service for God and Youth award. Jerry was employed at Pratt and Whitney as a Tool & Dye maker and later for Standadyne. Jerry was an avid bowler, golfer, fisherman and a die-hard UConn Women’s Basketball and New England Patriot fan. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Jerry is survived by Sandra, his wife of 62 years, his son John (Kacey) Violette, his daughter Theresa (Joe) Ferrato, his granddaughters, Katie and Ally Violette, Sarah and Samantha Ferrato, his great-grandsons, AJ, Elliot, and Carter, his sister Elaine Sullivan, sister-in-law Judith Lagosh and her daughter Lisa Lagosh, sister-in-law Geraldine Violette, brother-in-law Robert (Marie) Pronsky, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by an infant daughter, his parents, brothers Dana and Carroll, and brothers-in-law Walter Lagosh and Bernie Sullivan.

Calling hours will be on Friday, October 27th from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Browne Memorial Chapels, 43 Shaker Road, Enfield, CT. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at St. Patrick Church, 64 Pearl Street, Enfield, CT on Friday, October 27th at 11:30 a.m. Burial with military honors will follow in Hazardville Cemetery.
