Obituary for Harry G. Putney

Harry Garfield Putney, beloved husband of the late Elaine (McDonald) Putney, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 16, 2022 at Parkway Pavilion in Enfield at the age of 96.
Harry was born January 10, 1926 in Springfield, VT, son of the late Alson and Bernice (Vaughan) Putney. He grew up and started raising his family in Woodstock, VT, but later moved to West Lebanon, NH, and then moved to Enfield in 1957 where he settled and lived the remainder of his life.
Harry was drafted out of High School to serve our country honorably during WWII, as a Technician Fifth Grade in the 634th Field Artillery Battalion, where he was also in The Battle of the Bulge. Once he returned home, he went back to High School to get his diploma, which is where he met his future wife, Elaine. They were married for 66 years, prior to her passing in 2016. After High School he attended the University of Vermont.
He was employed as an Aircraft Engineer Inspector at Pratt and Whitney in East Hartford, retiring after 35 years.
Harry and Elaine enjoyed many happy years camping and traveling the United States, always looking for their next adventure. He also enjoyed gardening and woodworking in his retirement years. In his early years, he was an avid skier, winning several ski championship medals.
He leaves his daughters, Georgette (Gigi) Putney Landry of Enfield, Shirley Putney Bloom and her husband Ray of New York City and Melanie Putney Kirk of Sherman Oaks, CA, two grandsons, Jeffrey Ekenbarger of Stafford, CT and Steven Heravi of Sherman Oaks, CA, and two great-grandchildren, Violet and Jackson Heravi. In addition to his parents and wife, he was also predeceased by his siblings, Marjorie Nelson, Phyllis Allen and Norris Putney, all of Vermont.
The family would also like to thank the staff at Parkway Pavillion for all the care they gave him that made his final days mor comfortable. They were like his second family.
A private committal service will be held for both Harry and Elaine at the Hazardville Cemetery in Enfield. There are no calling hours.
