Obituary for James P. Griffin

James P Griffin of Enfield, CT passed away on January 6, 2024 at the age of 82 after a long battle with Parkinson’s disease. He passed peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family.
Lovingly addressed as Jimmy, he was born February 28, 1941 in Bay Shore, Long Island, NY to Joseph and Margaret (McGee) Griffin. Jim was educated at Bay Shore High School and went on to earn a Bachelor of Science Degree from Rider University in New Jersey. After graduating, Jim embarked on a long and successful career in sales, first with R. T. French, then Inland Container and Anderson Box, where he was decorated several years in a row with a Blue Ribbon Award for Excellence. His final position was with Packaging Corporation of America where he was instrumental in developing the New England Region. He retired in 2005 but continued to work independently until 2010.
Jim met Julia (Judy) at Rider in 1963 and they were married in 1964 and went on to have three children – James, Jennifer and Jill. His marriage was the greatest source of pride for him. He was incredibly dedicated to his family and was a devoted father and husband.
An active member of Saint Martha Church and School, Jim coached the school’s girl’s basketball team and was active in coaching softball for the town girls team where both his daughters played. He was ever involved in Boy Scouts and all things involving his children. Later he chaperoned the school’s ski club, where he also learned to ski alongside his children.
Jim was a member of the Knights of Columbus and had many friends. He loved a good party, was quick to laugh, would do anything for anyone, and was loved and admired by all who knew him.
Jim is survived by his wife Judy, son James and wife Jennifer from Somers, CT, daughter Jennifer Gray and husband Mike from Enfield, CT and daughter Jill Harkin and husband Ferghal from Oxford, England. Also, his 2 siblings Jack Griffin from Venice, FL and Ellen Anderson from West Islip, NY.
Jim also leaves 5 beloved grandchildren Zachary, Amanda, Caitlin, and Gryphon Gray and Madelyn Griffin who all affectionately called him PopPop.
Jim was predeceased by his father, Joseph Griffin, mother, Margaret Griffin and brothers Frank Griffin and Joseph Griffin.
A wake will be held at Brown Memorial Funeral Home at 43 Shaker Rd, Enfield, CT 06082 on Thursday January 11 from 4-7pm with additional calling hour from 8:30-9:30am on Friday January 12 before the funeral.
Funeral Mass at Saint Martha Church, 214 Brainard Rd, Enfield, CT 06082 on Friday January 12 at 10am. Interment immediately following at St. Jeanne Jugan Cemetery (Saint Patrick’s Cemetery) at 1556 King Street. Enfield, CT 06082.
