Obituary for John Edward Shannon, Jr.

John Edward Shannon, Jr., 77 of Feeding Hills, MA and formerly of Enfield, entered into eternal rest on Monday, September 5, 2022 at Baystate Medical Ctr. Springfield, MA. He was the beloved husband of 57 years to Norma (LaPointe) Shannon. Born on May 28, 1945 in Austell, GA to the late John E. and Mary Lillian (McGouirk) Shannon, Sr., he resided in Feeding Hills, MA for the past 50 years.
John served his country proudly with the U.S. Army from 1962-1969 during Vietnam. Prior to retiring in 2002, he was employed with Pratt & Whitney Aircraft for 33 years. Having had a passion for nature and the being outdoors, he was an avid fisherman and hunter. Loved country music, westerns and horses.
In addition to his wife Norma, he is survived by three sons, John E. Shannon, III of Becket, MA, Peter P. Shannon and wife Heidi (Sullivan) of Suffield, CT and Paul A. Shannon also of Suffield, CT, his seven beloved grandchildren Meghan, Ariana, Andrew, Alexander, Michael, Cooper and Charlee Shannon. He is also survived by his three siblings; Linda (Shannon) Whitten & husband Robert, Gary Shannon & wife Edna, and Bethany (Palmer) Ray & husband Darrell all of Georgia, along with many, many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. He also had several dear brothers and sisters-in-law with whom he was as close to as his own family. They considered him a brother. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by a sister and brother-in-law, Susan (Shannon) & Tilden Jeffares.
Relatives and friends may join his family during calling hours on Sunday, September 11, 2022 from 2:00 to 5:00 pm at Browne Memorial Chapels, Enfield. Funeral services will be held on Monday, September 12, 2022 with the procession forming at 10:30 am from the funeral home to St. Martha Church, 214 Brainard Rd. Enfield for a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 11:30 am. Interment with military honors will follow in the Massachusetts Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery, Agawam, MA.
