Obituary for Joseph Carmelo Lastrina

Joseph Carmelo Lastrina, 88, of Enfield, CT, entered into eternal rest on Sunday, September 3, 2023, less than a month shy of his 89th birthday. He was the beloved husband of the late Barbara A. (Locatelli) Lastrina, who predeceased him on January 29, 2022.
Born on October 1, 1934 in Middletown, CT, he was one of eight children of the late Salvatore and Mary (Rafala) Lastrina. He grew up in Hartford, CT. Joseph proudly served his country as a U.S. Marine for three years, from 1952-1955, during the Korean War.
Following his service, he married Barbara on October 9, 1957 and they eventually moved to Somers, CT to raise their family. Through the years he was part owner of Trinity Enterprises in Somers, CT; part owner of DeNunzio Art Gallery, also in Somers, and in his earlier years owned a small pizza shop in Enfield, CT. A stone mason by trade, he was a member of the Bricklayers Union, Local 1. One of his most memorable jobs was the restoration of the Cathedral of Saint Joseph in Hartford. He and Barbara moved to Savannah, GA, where they retired. A devout Catholic, he was a daily communicant of St. James Roman Catholic Church in Savannah, GA.
Joseph is survived by his four children and their families: Salvatore Anthony Lastrina (Nancy Smyth) and children; Gina Gotowala (Brett), Kaitlyn LeDuc (Jordan), Kristin Lulek (Cameron), Salvatore Lastrina, and Annamarie Lastrina; Joseph Carmelo Lastrina, Jr. (Cheryl Hutton) and children; Adam Lastrina (Ann), Michael Lastrina (Jane), Nicholas Lastrina (Meghan), Jacob Lastrina (Brianna) and Lauren Lastrina; Marianne Lastrina Vesce (Ronald) and children; Danielle Vesce, Jessica Caron (Joseph), and Christopher Vesce and fiancée Kristen Steidler; and Judith Fox (Andrew) and children; Ashley Sangiovanni, Melissa Lloyd, Rachel Lastrina and fianceé Richard, and Anthony Lastrina; and 20 cherished great-grandchildren. Also, his siblings: Louise Archambault (George), Marie Carson (Norm), Frank Lastrina (Victoria), and Sally Ann Thomas (Dean), as well as many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents and his wife, he was also predeceased by three siblings: Louis Lastrina, Constance Northrup, and Angelina DiPietro.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, September 12, 2023 at 9:30 am in St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, 519 Longmeadow St., Longmeadow, MA. Interment will follow at the Massachusetts Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery, 1390 Main St., Agawam, MA. Browne Memorial Chapels, Enfield, CT has been entrusted with arrangements.
