Obituary for Julia G. Laflamme (Bourque)

Julia Georgette (Bourque) Laflamme, of Enfield, CT entered her eternal life on Saturday, February 4, 2023. Born November 15, 1924 in Gardner, MA, to the late William and Emma (Cormier) Bourque, Julia was a devoted wife to her husband of 60 years, the late Joseph Reginald “Rex” Laflamme (2/23/2010), and a loving mother to her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She took great pleasure in spending time with her family and friends.

As a young woman, Julia worked at Whitney Chain and later at Veeder Root in Hartford. During WWII she was recruited by the Army to be part of the Women Aircraft Mechanics at the former Windsor Locks Army Air Base, first working on reclamations, then precision cockpit instruments, finally specializing in The Norden Bombsight. After the war ended she worked at Bush Manufacturing where she would meet her husband Rex.

Julia exemplified a life of service. A lifelong parishioner of St. Bernard’s Church, she was a member of the Rosary Guild and the Legion of Mary. Her contributions to St. Bernard’s are immeasurable. She spent over 50 years both working and volunteering at St. Joseph’s Residence, doing everything from painting ceramics and conducting bingo to baking hundreds of meat pies and cooking thousands of crepes. She was a member of the Jeanne Jugan Society through her work at St. Joe’s.

Julia leaves her children: Linda Courchesne and her husband Alfred Jr., Robert and his wife MaryLynne, Lisa and her husband Robert Kiefer, and LouAnne and her husband Gary Marcus; her grandchildren Gail Courchesne, Kelly Dinsdale and husband David, Karen O’Connell and husband Shane, AJ Courchesne and wife April, Ahmed Almukhtar and wife Jenny, Jennifer Laflamme and Sabrina Marcus; and Great Grandchildren Melanie, Parker, Noah, McKenzie, Madison, Jacob and Hannah. She is also survived by her siblings Shirley Hunt, Nancy Lee, William Bourque and his wife Raymonde, Richard Bourque, and Guy Bourque and his wife Anna. Julia was predeceased by her siblings Doris Robinson, Adela Nickerson and Dominique (Mickey) Bourque.

Calling hours for relatives and friends are on Thursday, February 9 from 5-8 PM at Browne Memorial Funeral Chapels, 43 Shaker Road, Enfield, CT. Funeral services will be held Friday, February 10 with the funeral procession forming at 9:30, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church, 426 Hazard Avenue, Enfield, CT. Interment will take place in St. Bernard’s Cemetery, 59 Park Street, Enfield, CT.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Little Sisters of the Poor / St. Joseph’s Residence (Enfield, CT), Beacon Hospice Care (East Hartford, CT) or Parkway Pavilion Health & Rehabilitation Center (Enfield, CT).
