Obituary for Kenneth W. Devin
Kenneth W. Devin, 84, of Enfield, CT, peacefully entered eternal rest surrounded by his loved ones on June 21, 2022. He leaves behind his wife of 65 years, Eleanor (Distazio) Devin, daughter Laurie Grandon and son-in-law Raymond Grandon of Enfield, son Mark Devin and daughter-in-law Sheri (Wood) Devin of Longmeadow, son Robert Devin and daughter-in-law Christine (Cournoyer) Devin of Suffield, and daughter Karen Dunn and son-in-law Charles Dunn of Enfield. He is pre-deceased by his parents Wilfred J. Devin and Angela (Jesanis) Devin, brother Richard Devin, sister Beverly Meehan, and brother Lee Devin. Ken also leaves behind his grandchildren Nicole and husband John, Michael, Travis and partner Kerstin, Courtney and husband Ryan, and Jenna, and great-grandchildren Grady, Sullivan, and Flynn, and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
Born and raised in Windsor, CT, Ken transferred to Enfield High School in his sophomore year to pursue the ‘Future Farmers of America’ program, where he met Eleanor. In 1956, he graduated with High-Honors from Enfield High School, married Eleanor in 1957 and immediately went to serve his country in the Navy. He graduated first in class for aviation mechanics and after serving 3 years he and Eleanor made their home in Enfield. In 1964, Ken started an auto-repair company called Enfield Automatic Transmission and served the greater Enfield community for the next 40 years. Ken was a ‘true craftsman’ and loved serving his patrons with exemplary customer service. Many patrons became friends and would show up at coffee break to coin a new phrase or plan the next snowmobile trip.
Ken was a devoted and dependable husband, father, grampa, and friend who was always willing to help in a moment of need. He was a Red Sox and UConn fan, and an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting, fishing, boating, archery, and snowmobiling, and made life-long friends in pursuit of the great outdoors. He belonged to the Enfield Archery Club, NRA, Enfield Hunters’ Club, and the Vermont Association of Snow Travelers. As a faithful member of St. Patrick’s parish, he passed on his faith to his children and like a good Catholic took his family to Saturday night mass when there were Sunday morning fishing plans. He was an amateur guitar-player and was often the life of the family party with just three chords and hundreds of country and western songs. Ken lived the American dream and passed on his blessings to all those who knew him. He will be missed but his legacy lives on. May he rest in peace.
Services will be held at Browne’s Memorial Chapels in Enfield with a wake on Monday, June 27, 2022, from 4pm to 7pm. A Mass of Christian burial starting at Browne’s at 9am Tuesday, June 28, 2022, to St. Patrick’s Church (St. Raymond of Penafort Parish) in Enfield, and concluding at St Patrick King Street Cemetery in Enfield with military honors.
