Obituary

Kurt M. Schermerhorn
Kurt, of Enfield, passed away on June 5, 2020. He was predeceased by his parents, Maurice & Jean (Leach) Schermerhorn. He was born on April 15, 1954 in Springfield, MA. Kurt leaves his brother, Lee Schermerhorn and his wife Connie of Enfield, CT who he thanks for the never ending supply of children and greats so he was off the hook with Mom & Dad. Sister, Nancy Haase and her husband Ed Loos of The Villages, FL where Kurt loved visiting the crazy Villages driving Nancy’s golf cart too fast, playing bocce, the pools, and 2-1 specials everywhere every day!
He will never be forgotten by his nieces, nephew and their children:
Kerri Schermerhorn St. Pierre and her husband Timothy and their children, Giselle, John & Cole of Sutton, MA Brian Schermerhorn and his wife Kate and Noah, Carter, Addison & Wesley of Suffield, CT Elisha Jezek and her husband Jesse and their children Ryan & Leah of Avon, CT Erica Light and her children Faith & Hudson of Enfield, CT
Kurt wants everyone to remember him for his crazy “sport team” choices – New York Yankees (ok), but Dallas Cowboys and Montreal Canadians – really? Are you from New England? And let’s not forget the fabulous chili he would make for those great Super Bowl parties at the Hukelau. He wants his “girls” at Chicago Sam’s and Tao’s to remember his never ending supply of chocolates.
He was so thankful for the many adventures at Cape Cod with Mom, Dad, family and friends including the jetty walks, catching horseshoe crabs and relaxing. We hope the fishing is great and there is plenty of cold barley soup with Uncle Herbie. Here’s to golfing is your best round yet and the Mai Tai’s are flowing with Steve Martin. A celebration of Kurt’s life will be held at a later date. Rest in peace Brother, we love you! In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Connecticut Humane Society, 701 Russell Rd. Newington, CT 06111 or the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 22478 Oklahoma City, OK 73123

Kurt was a person that would enerergize a room upon entering. He had a quick wit and a smile for everyone. He loved animals and the simplicity of Life. Anyone who met Kurt, would meet a friend, and have a favorite moment they would remember fondly. One of my favorite memories was the "Big Guy" putting the Angel on top of our 8 foot tree at our home in Vero Beach Fl (of course no ladder needed). He was a friend, a brother, and a joy to have in our Life. Travel safely my brother and know you are dearly missed on this earth. Love Joe and Nancy Catania.

I met Kurt in Hazardville Memorial School, 3rd Grade. He was always fun and cracking jokes. Mrs. Hawthorne was his teacher that year.

While I lost touch with Kurt for many years including high school at Enrico Fermi Class of 1972, he seemed to have maintained a joyous perspective of Life. A nice always fun person to me and others.

The attached picture is from his yearbook. His nickname was "Scherm". He was in Varsity Hockey 2.

Apologies for the marginal crop attempt.

So sorry to hear about your loss. Kurt and I did many things and went many places in this world. My only regret was not getting him to go with me to visit my family in Saltillo, Mexico. We worked together at Hallmark Cards for many years and he was a true friend who could always be counted on and will be sadly missed. Ira Becker
