Lois Jane Nichols, 92, of East Longmeadow, MA passed away on November 1, 2018. Lois was born on December 2, 1925 in Waldwick, NJ; the daughter of the late Louis G Krauss and Sarah J (Talmadge) Krauss.
Lois grew up in Midland park, NJ and then moved to Nashua, NH in 1960. After raising her son, she retired to Florida where she spent over 40 years before relocating back to New Hampshire. Lois was a dedicated homemaker and devoted to her family. she was an avid boater and loved boating and sailing well into her eighties. Always adventurous, Lois traveled, camped, went on numerous cruises and even tried skiing for the first time at age 69. She was a member of the Red Hat Society and enjoyed Crocheting, Bingo and playing cards. Lois spent her final years in East Longmeadow to be near her son and daughter in law where her love of fine restaurants and people watching was one of her favorite pastimes.
Known to her grandchildren as ‘Mimi’; she was the epitome of the perfect grandmother; full of laughter and fun. Her joyful spirit and spunk drew them to her and brought them comfort and tremendous joy.
Lois is survived by her son James T Monroe and daughter-in-law, Ruth Monroe of Enfield, CT; step-son David P Nichols and daughter-in-law Deborah Nichols of Durham, NH.; nine grandchildren; Melanie Fisher of Newington, CT, Ben Monroe of Vancouver, BC, Canada, John Nieroda, Tracey Nieroda, and Nicole Drury all of Enfield, CT, Ted Nichols of Wilton NH, Holly Lubelczyk of Merrimack, NH, Kate Ingold of Greensboro NC, and Zach Nichols of Washington DC; and 15 great grandchildren.
Besides her parents, Lois was predeceased by her first husband, Henry (Sonny) James Monroe, her second husband, Edward F Nichols of Dover, NH, step-son Edward F Nichols III, and two sisters, Marion Molatch and Grace (Sis) Parrillo.
Services and burial will be private at the convenience of the family.
