Obituary for Margaret Edith Magnificent (Clayton)

It is with a broken heart we announce the passing of Margaret Clayton Magnificent, 92, of Somers, CT on September 28, 2021. Margaret was born in Plainville, CT on September 23, 1929 to Sophie Cushor And Raymond Clayton. Both of her parents passed away while she was an infant. She lived in an orphanage and then with extended family. She worked for Royal Typewriter when she met and married Robert Thomas Magnificent. Her cherished only son, Paul Clayton Magnificent was killed at the age of 14, on May 7, 1983 in Somers CT. The loss was and is profound. Her husband Robert passed away the eve of her birthday in 1989. Margaret later enjoyed a career at JCPenney and made lifelong friends with Betty and Carl Piecyk, Helen Austin and many others. She retired in 1996 to help her daughter Jean with her newborn twins Lauren and Wyatt who she adored. She lived with Jean beginning in 1994 and enjoyed multiple military moves. She especially loved living in Washington State and Arizona. She enjoyed riding the trolley thru Deadwood South Dakota, seeing Mount Rushmore, Mount Rainer and Hurricane Ridge. All these once in a lifetime moments which she shared with her grandchildren Lauren and Wyatt, and her daughter Jean. She also enjoyed yearly vacations with daughters Lori and Jean to Scottsdale Arizona and many spectacular cruises to the Bahamas with Lori. She especially loved playing bingo with her special friend Vi Brown. She leaves behind so many close family and friends. Her son Paul’s best friend Ken Landry and family, Helena and Bob Bergeron and family of British Columbia, Rick Gay and His Wife Susan, Donna McIntire and many other friends and family. Margaret is survived by her loving daughters, Lori Magnificent of Goodyear AZ, Jean Magnificent of Somers, CT and Diane Magnificent of FL. Her beloved grandchildren Lauren VanFossan, Wyatt VanFossan, and Andre Pelletier. Her Niece Janet (Riggott) Carden and nephews Johnny Clayton, Mark Clayton, Scott Clayton and Danny Riggott. Margaret is predeceased by her beloved son Paul Clayton Magnificent, her husband Robert Thomas Magnificent, brothers William and John Clayton. Sister Irene (Clayton) Riggott. The family would like to thank Masonic Care Hospice, Karen, Beth, Caroline, Kate, Chris, and Jim. Also, Gabby, Frank, Sandy, John and June. Margaret’s kindness was immeasurable and lives in our hearts. You’ve heard God’s angels walk among us. Surely Margaret was one. Her sweet smile and soft caring voice will never be forgotten. Calling hours will be at Browne Funeral Home, Enfield CT on Friday October 15, 2021 from 4-7 pm with a memorial prayer at 7 pm. Burial will be private. Per Margaret’s wishes, in lieu of flowers donations are appreciated for her granddaughter’s Masters Degree College Fund.
