Obituary for Modesto C. Ortiz
Modesto C. Ortiz, 74, of Enfield, CT beloved father of Nancy, Nelson, and Elizabeth Ortiz passed away on Wednesday, April 8, 2020.
Born in Humacao, Puerto Rico on May 27, 1945. He was the son of the late Jesús Ortiz and Fermina Cintron and the beloved husband of the late Georgina Ortiz. He was a resident of Enfield for the past 57 years. When he arrived from Puerto Rico, he worked farming tobacco, as well as the Mountain Laurel Restaurant. He then was employed by the Town of Enfield, Department of Public Works for over 40 years, as well as, a chef at the Somers Inn Restaurant. He retired in 2008 and dedicated his free time volunteering at food shelf before returning to the workforce to work for Diana’s Bakery where he worked for the past 10 years.
He loved to cook, tend to his flowers, and spend time with the family.
Modesto was a parishioner of St. Patricks’ Church.
Besides his three children, he is survived by, four grandchildren Samuel, Gabriella, Nicolás and Joél; four great grandchildren Gianella, Armani, Gemina and Merlin and son-in-law, José Olmeda. He will be dearly missed by an extensive family and friends.
Due to the current public health crisis, a private funeral will take place on Monday, April 13, 2020 with a memorial service to be held at a future date. Any donations may be made in his memory to the Enfield Food Shelf or Enfield Fishes and Loaves.
