Philip A. Faticanti, 75, of Andover, Connecticut passed away unexpectedly on November 6, 2018. He was born in Worcester, Massachusetts July 21, 1943, the son of Virgilio Faticanti, Sr. and Lucy [Valentino] Faticanti. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Judyann Faticanti, and a daughter Jessica Faticanti, two brothers, Virgilio Faticanti of Enfield, CT and John Faticanti of Worcester, MA and multiple nieces and nephews.
Philip devoted his life to developing programs for special needs students. He was educated in the Worcester public school system and moved to Connecticut where he attended Southern Connecticut State University for both his BS and MS degrees [1967], majoring in special education. He received his CAGS from the University of Hartford in 1973 and his Ed. D. from the University of Bridgeport in education management. In addition, he attended Yeshiva University for graduate studies in New York [1967-1973] where he field-tested a social learning curriculum for special needs students. Philip worked for the Enfield Public Schools as Director of Special Education prior to moving to American International College in Springfield, MA [1973-1989] as Director of Special Education and Student Teaching. He worked for the Newington Children’s Hospital School for special education students in East Hartford, CT and then for the Stafford Board of Education in Stafford Springs, CT as Director of Special Services [1994-1995]. His final position was at the Manchester Child Guidance Clinic School, Manchester, CT where he directed the program for emotionally disturbed children until his retirement in 2002.
Phil collected stamps and coins, an interested he had from childhood that carried into his adult years. He had a fondness for computer games and collected old records and albums. Most of all, Phil enjoyed cooking and entertaining friends and family. He loved animals and took great pleasure in feeding the deer and wild birds that came into the yard.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Phil’s name to the Connecticut Humane Society at 701 Russel Avenue Newington, CT 06111.
