Obituary for Richard Warren Darby

In the early morning of February 28, 2024, Richard Warren Darby of Enfield, CT, passed away at Saint Francis Hospital. Richard was 73 years old.
The son of Jack and June Darby, Richard grew up in Glastonbury, CT. Richard played on the soccer, basketball and golf teams in high school and spent many afternoons in his young adulthood playing round after round of golf at Blackledge Country Club. Richard served in the Marine Corps Reserve before beginning his long-term career in maintenance at Pratt & Whitney.
He was a lifelong fan of UConn basketball and the New York Yankees but could find both joy and frustration while watching virtually any sporting event. Richard was a vigorous competitor, whether it was a round of miniature golf on a Cape Cod family vacation, or bidding on a hand of setback at Thanksgiving. He shared his love for sports with his family by coaching his sons’ soccer teams and with his extensive collection of baseball cards.
Richard is survived by his loving wife, Dawn, and his four sons: Brian and his partner Diana Manthorne, David and his wife Heather, Mathew and his partner Cicely DiPaulo, and Ryan and his wife Jamey. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Leah and Jack, and his sister, Lee Ann Saundry, and her partner, Brian Murphy.
A memorial service in his honor will be held on March 16, 2024, from 1 to 3 P.M. at Browne Funeral Chapels at 43 Shaker Road, Enfield, CT.
