Obituary for Rita "Maureen" Binkowski (Purzycki)

Rita “Maureen” Purzycki Binkowski 78, of Ellington, the beloved wife of the late Walter J. Binkowski Jr., passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 8, 2018, at Hartford Hospital surrounded by her loving family. She was born August 1, 1940 in Hartford CT; daughter of the late John and Rita Purzycki. Maureen grew up in Cromwell and attended schools in Middletown. After graduating from Middletown High School class of 1958 she married her high school sweetheart Walt and began living and traveling all over the world for the next 20 years during Walt's service in the United States Air Force. During that time she worked as a real estate agent and in accounting while also raising her family. After Walt's retirement they settled in Ellington where she worked for both Rice and Action Packaging in Ellington. During this time she became actively involved with her children's sport activities, even serving as the President of Ellington Little League for a time. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother and had a passion for sports. This passion had her following and attending hundreds of youth, high school and collegiate sporting events that her children and grandchildren participated in. She also was an avid Boston Red Sox and UCONN women's basketball fan. She is survived by her three sons and their spouses Russell and Susan Binkowski of Ellington, Richard and Cathy Binkowski of Goshen and Robert and Janet Binkowski of Ellington, She also leaves her grandchildren Christopher and his fiance Danielle Langlois, Justin, Nicholas and his girlfriend Sara Gambacorta, Jessica and her boyfriend Andrew Worden, Courtney, Austin and Marley. Her sister and brother-in-law Donna and Bill Hicks of Winder GA., a sister Denise Coccomo of Lyme, a brother-in-law and his wife Richard and Judy Binkowski and a sister-in-law and her husband Louise and Dana Hardy all of North Fort Myers, FL, several nieces, nephews, cousins and her best friend Janet Cox Perrey of Spokane WA. She was predeceased by a granddaughter Jenna Binkowski and both of her brothers Theodore and Gerald Purzycki. Relatives and friends may join the family for visiting hours on Thursday, December 13, 2018 from 4:00 to 7:00p.m. at Browne Memorial Chapels, 43 Shaker Road, Enfield, CT. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, December 14, 2018, 1p.m. at Saint Bernard Church, 25 St. Bernard's Terrace, Vernon, CT. Burial will be held at Ellington Cemetery immediately following the service. In lieu of flowers memorial donations in Maureen's memory may be made to the Ellington Community Scholarship Association, ECSA PO Box 54 Ellington CT 06029.
