Obituary for Robert L. "Bob" Bednarz

Robert L. Bednarz
(1938 – 2020)

Robert L. (“Bob”) Bednarz, 82, of Enfield Connecticut, passed away Friday, December 18, 2020 at home after an extended illness. Born in Hartford, Connecticut on November 23, 1938, Bob was the son of the late Martin and Ann (Nicewicz) Bednarz. Bob attended Vinyl Technical School, then began a 30-year career with Aetna Life and Casualty Company, licensed and managing HVAC, and plumbing departments before retiring in 1993.
Bob is survived by the love of his life and wife of 61 years, Jean (Angelo) Bednarz, his son and daughters Mark Bednarz, (wife) Renay Emmanuele, and (grandson) Derrick Bednarz of Windsor, Connecticut, his daughter LeAnne Bednarz of Enfield, Connecticut and Debra Ashley, (husband) Thomas Ashley Jr., (grandson) Tyler Ashley and (wife) Jennifer Ashley of West Stafford, Connecticut. Bob also leaves his (sister-in-law) Maureen and (brother-in-law) Gene Chamberlain as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his mother and father, brothers Francis and Lawrence Bednarz and sister, Catherine Bednarz Czekierda.
Bob spent his retirement alongside his wife, selflessly dedicating his time and services to Saint Martha’s Church and School in Enfield, Connecticut. A man of strong faith, his most prized possession was the Saint Joseph Medal of Appreciation Award, awarded annually to a parishioner who has provided invaluable service to the Church. He received this award from Archbishop Henry Mansell at Saint Joseph’s Cathedral in Hartford for his tireless acts of kindness and volunteerism.
Bob loved his family and his grandchildren always came first. He would lend a hand to anyone in need including neighbors and complete strangers without asking for anything in return. A jack-of-all trades, he enjoyed using his keen skills to tinker with and fix anything broken to occupy his time, and took great pride in taking care of his home and lawn. He especially loved long car rides with his wife. Bob lived his life on his terms until the end, leaving this earth at home with his high school sweetheart of 65 years by his side (they were married for 61 years though together for 65 years). Bob – a life well lived – he will be missed by his family and friends.
In the lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate a donation of platelets and blood to the Red Cross or a donation in Bob’s memory to Leukemia research (https://donate.lls.org/lls/donate), or by mail to LLS Donor Services P.O. Box 98018 Washington, DC 20090-8018
Due to COVID-19, the funeral services will be private and a celebration of life will take place after the pandemic.
