Robert H. Simmons, 88, of Enfield, entered into eternal rest on Sunday, July 24, 2022 at Baystate Medical Ctr., Springfield, MA. Born February 24, 1934 in Marlborough, MA to the late Samuel S. and Lavinia (Laverdure) Simmons. He had resided in Enfield for the past 44 years and in Marlborough, MA before that, where he graduated from Marlborough, H.S. He served his country proudly with the 82nd Airborne at Fr. Bragg, NC for training and in the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged April 30th 1963. He worked at Agrico Fertilizer from 1970- 1998, then at Diana’s Bakery, was a cab driver, and did security with Atwood Security for 13 years. Robert loved sports, he was an avid Patriots and Red Sox fan, enjoyed drawing, preforming magic tricks, in his younger days bowling and archery with his dad. Robert is survived by his children; Laurie Futtner of East Hartford, Roger E. & Carolyn Simmons of Hebron, their children, Matthew, Rachel, Zachary, and Amanda; Joan Simmons & Steven of Rotterdam, NY, Richard Simmons of Enfield, Robert Simmons of Enfield, Patrick Simmons & Theresa of Enfield, their children, Tanya, Christine, Lisa, Brandon, Ashley and Tommy; Annie Zazatsky & Stephen of Somers, and Crystal Simmons (granddaughter that he helped raise) of Enfield. He is also survived by a sister Ruth Simmons Hodgdon Mayer of Bradenton, FL, a sister-in-law Joan Desrosiers of Hudson, MA, nieces & nephews; Paul, Benny, Charlie, Jeanne and Cheryl White & her family, and a cousin Donna Laverdure.
Robert was also predeceased by his wife of 62 years, Ann M. (McCarthy) Simmons, two grandsons, Bruce and Michael, and a brother Earl S. Simmons who died during the Korean War and had received a Purple Heart.
Relatives and friends may gather with his family on Friday, July 29, 2022 from 4 to 7 pm at Browne Memorial Chapels, Enfield. Services with Military Honors will be held at 6:45 pm followed by a Prayer Service at 7:00pm. Interment will be at the convenience of family
