Ronald F. X. Smith, of Enfield, passed away in his home on Wednesday, January 18, 2023. He was born in Stafford, Connecticut on October 17, 1961, the son Kathryn (Klein) Mears and Thomas J. Smith. Ron lived in Enfield for all his life and was employed by the Town of Enfield for more than 42 years, working in the Public Works Department. He was an avid sports fan who passionately rooted for the New York Giants, the Boston Red Sox and the UConn football and basketball teams. He cared deeply for those he loved and for all animals, especially those he knew to be alone or abandoned. He was a rock and roller to his core who, long after his band-playing days were over, always had a guitar at the ready to play for and with friends and family, all of whom will never cease to miss him. Ron is survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Patricia and David Bunce of Colonie, NY; his brother and sister-in-law, Brian and Jean Smith of Colchester; his nephew, Benjamin Bunce of Astoria; NY, his niece and her family, Annie (Bunce), David and Miles Carta of Colonie, NY; his niece Stephanie Smith of Colchester, CT; and his nephew Maxwell Smith of Willimantic, CT. He also leaves behind his longtime friend, Cindy Axenroth and her family, including her grandchildren. Lastly, he leaves behind his beloved cat, Queenie. Ron was predeceased by his parents and a sister Elaine. Funeral services for Ron will be held on Thursday, January 26, 9:00 a.m., from Browne Memorial Funeral Chapels, 43 Shaker Rd., Enfield followed by a Mass of Christian Burial 10:00 a.m., in Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer, 20 North St., Enfield. Committal service will take place in the Hazardville Cemetery, Enfield. Ron's family will receive relatives and friends on Wednesday, January 25, 4:00 – 7:00 p.m., at the funeral home.
