Obituary for Thomas Williams "Tom " McCann, Sr.

Thomas Williams McCann, Sr. went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, October 26, 2022 surrounded by his loving wife, Norma (Curtis) McCann and family.
Tom was born on March 5, 1931 in Manchester, CT. He attended Manchester schools and graduated from Manchester H.S. with the class of 1949. He earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering from Hillyer College and then went on an served our country with the U.S. Army. After serving in the Army, Tom entered the work force and used his engineering degree and eventually his many other abilities to work as an engineer, a draftsman, and a sales engineer. This brought the blended family he and his wife Norma were now raising to many states, including California, Maine and Massachusetts. After he retired in 1992, he continued to work part-time as first a delivery person for a photo shop and then as a rental transporter for a car rental agency.
Tom was a man of many facets he enjoyed and told many jokes. An avid reader, he enjoyed such genres as World War II history, and mysteries. His sport of choice to watch was ice hockey. He planned and completed many home projects and loved to use his keen engineering mind to fix things. Probably what he enjoyed most was talking with his son Tom, Jr. about cars and motorcycles, having once owned a sports car.
Tom will be missed by his surviving family; his loving wife Norma (Curtis) McCann of over 60 years. and his children and step-children Amy McCann of Stafford Springs, Tom McCann, Jr. (Christy) of Warren, MA, Sharon Swihart of Morris, IL, Karen Hatch (Dale) of South China, ME, and Vity Stankis of Southwick, MA. He is also survived by his 12 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. Tom was predeceased by his parents Herbert and Amy McCann and a brother Donald McCann.
Calling hours for Tom will be on Monday, October 31, 2022 from 4:00 to 7:00 pm followed by a Prayer Service at Browne Memorial Chapels, Enfield. Interment will be private in the East Cemetery, Manchester, CT.
