Obituary for William "Bill" J. Rush

William “Bill” J. Rush, 84, of Enfield, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, January 10, 2019. He was the beloved husband of 56 years to the late Claire (Girard) Rush (2014). William was born on January 19, 1934 in Hartford, CT, to the late John D. and Jennie (Sullivan) Rush and was a lifelong resident of Enfield. He was a graduate of Enfield High School Class of 1952.
Bill then enlisted into the service and served his country honorably with the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War and received the Korean Ambassador for Peace Medal in 2017.
He retired from Hallmark Cards, Inc. Enfield in 1996 after many years. Prior to that he worked as a surveyor in the construction industry for 20+ years. Bill was a parishioner of St. Patrick Church, Enfield, a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus Council 50, Enfield, a member of the Tanguay-Magill Post 80 American Legion, Enfield, a member of the Enfield Senior Center and a past member of St. Anne’s Country Club. In his leisure time he enjoyed time spent with the Panera Coffee Club, attending activities and events at the Senior Center, golfing, trips to Hampton Beach and Marco Island, attending the grandchildren’s games whether at hockey, basketball, soccer and softball or gymnastics competitions. He was an avid fan of the UConn Huskies men and women’s basketball teams, Red Sox, and N.E. Patriots.
Bill is survived by his two sons, William M. Rush and Jody St. John of Enfield, and John T. Rush and wife Colleen of Somers, CT, his four beloved grandchildren, Joey, Justin, Tanner and Erin Rush, along with several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was also predeceased by a sister Claire Burke and a cousin Marilyn Rush.
Family and friends will gather on Wednesday, January 16, 2019 beginning at 9:30 a.m. at Browne Memorial Chapels to form a procession to St. Patrick Church (St. Raymond of Penafort Parish) Enfield where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Interment with Military Honors will be held in Old St. Patrick Cemetery, Thompsonville. Bill’s family will receive relatives and friends on Tuesday, January 15, 2019 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Browne Memorial Chapels, Enfield.
